The International Hyperbaric Medical Association (IHMA) is a society for medical professionals and persons who wish to be affiliated with hyperbaric medicine. The Association's mission is to improve public health by: implementing high ethical and scientific standards for hyperbaric medicine; promoting sound hyperbaric research and treatment protocols; educating the medical community, the general public, decision makers and policy experts about the benefits of hyperbaric medicine and adjunctive therapies; and working to make hyperbaric medicine more universally available and affordable. The IHMA represents physicians, medical professionals and consumers in affairs related to insurance company and government health-care policies related to hyperbaric medicine.
" It is not entirely impossible, that, perhaps sometime in the next decade, professors of medicine will have difficulty in explaining why the treatment with (hyperbaric) oxygen was not widely adopted much earlier."
" Knowledge may be dangerous. Ignorance is incomparably more dangerous. Knowledge alone will not suffice. In addition to knowledge, we need the right decisions by people."
- Dr. Edward Teller 1908-2003
